Health benefits of antioxidants
In clinical trials Chinese Jiaogulan (Gynostemma pentaphyllum) and Mangosteen (Garcina mangosteen) have been shown to strengthen the body's antioxidant defenses by inducing synthesis of the natural antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) [an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant enzyme produced by the body that protects against joint inflammation] and scavenging free radicals that in turn help with the prevention of carcinogenesis (cancer development) as well as aid in the prevention and treatment of heart attacks, strokes, atherosclerosis, and liver disease. It is this ability of Mangosteen and Jiaogulan to induce SOD production in the body that makes it so valuable in fighting free radicals.
Scientists have found that when taken orally, SOD disintegrates in the gastrointestinal tract. Even when some SOD is absorbed in the intestinal wall they would be rejected by the bodies immune system. This invalidates the value of taking an SOD supplement. This is unfortunate because as we get older the production of endogenous SOD becomes more and more important.
Antioxidants and aging
It is the free radicals in our body that cause us to age, just like when rust oxidizes metal and erodes it or when air oxidizes an apple and it turns brown. The body does create its own natural antioxidants but there are so many stresses put upon the human body in today's world that it is increasing the number of free radicals in our bodies. These stresses include pollution, second hand smoke, smog, over exposure to sunlight, and much more. There is also evidence that the oxidative effect of these free radicals causes harm to various molecules caused by free radicals and may in fact cause ailments such as cancer, atherosclerosis, diabetes, liver disease, arthritis, as well as accelerate the aging process. Fortunately nature has given us some great sources for natural antioxidants, two of significance are Mangosteen and Jiaogulan.
Natural antioxidant foods
Nature has actually provided us with quite a few natural antioxidants, although they may not be as powerful as Jiaogulan or Mangosteen, they are there for the benefit of your health. Some of these other foods are as follows; tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, spinach, brussel sprouts, broccoli, alfalfa sprouts, onion, corn, eggplant, beets, red bell pepper, raisins, prunes, blackberries, strawberries, raspberries, plums, kiwi fruit, and grapefruit. Also fish contains high levels of amino acids. People who eat high amounts of these foods are known to have strong immune systems.
Antioxidant Supplement
There is a huge range of antioxidant supplements to investigate, but most of
them are one of the following; Vitamin C, Vitamin E and beta-carotene. These
supplements are not meant to create an artificial barrier to oxidation, but
rather encourage your system to synthesize it's own natural antioxidants. Our
latest Super Fruit Powder Supplement from Thailand called Fak
Khaao Momordica Cochinchinensis exceeds
all botanicals known today with it's 70X the Lycopene content of tomatoes, 60X
Vitamin C found in oranges, and 10X the amount of Beta-Carotene, Vitamin A found
in carrots - and it is 100% bioavailable, meaning your body utilizes 100% percent
of the nutriments in this ancient eastern fruit gourd that has been in use for
hundreds if not thousnads of years in Chinese Traditional Medicine TCM and throughout
southeast Asia. Read
