Siamese turmeric can be grown almost anywhere in Thailand, has been a part of Thai life for centuries as one of the most commonly used spice herbal medicine and cosmetics, and is renowned for its higher content of curcuminoids and volatile oil, which is the active constituents of the rhizomes.
While the world health organization
monograph of Curcuma longa rhizome specifies the amount of curcuminoids and
volatile oil to be not less than 3.0 % and 4.0% respectively, the monograph
of Thai Herbal Pharmacopoeia sets the amount of those compounds to be not
less than 5.0% and 6.0% respectively, hence the quality of Thai turmeric is
regarded as one of the best in the world.
Turmeric is helpful in treating various skin rashes and dermatosis, and aids in reducing inflammation and muscular contractions. Herbalists and naturopaths consider turmeric to be one of nature's most potent anti-inflammatories and antioxidants. It contains curcumin and curcuminoids, powerful anti-inflammatory phytochemicals that act as natural cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitors in the body, and inhibit the production of the prostaglandins that cause inflammation and swelling.
Khamin-Chan is a natural antioxidant that protects the body from oxidative damage and helps detoxify and protect the liver from the damaging effects of alcohol, toxic chemicals, and some pharmaceutical drugs. It also stimulates the production of bile, which is needed to digest fat. No toxic side effects have been linked to its use in holistic health massage treatments, but consuming large amounts of it orally may cause upset stomach and increase the action of medications for people taking blood thinners.
Turmeric is a perennial plant about 60 to 90 cm in height with a short stem and tufted leaves. This unique rhizome is related to the ginger and promotes soft, clear, toned, silky smooth skin & especially useful for dry skin.
Turmeric is natures ideal cosmetic and an excellent natural exfolient and antibiotic that strengthens digestion and helps improve intestinal flora. Turmeric purifies the blood, stimulates the formation of new blood tissue, and promotes healthy metabolism by correcting excesses and deficiencies.
